Luján Statement on the Withdrawal of U.S. Troops From Iraq PDF Print E-mail

Friday, October 21, 2011

Santa Fe, NM – Congressman Ben Ray Luján released the following statement today regarding President Obama's announcement that U.S. troops will be withdrawn from Iraq by the end of the year.

“President Obama’s announcement today of plans to bring home our brave men and women who are serving in Iraq is welcome news.  The Iraq war has asked great sacrifices of the men and women in uniform as well as their families.  Time and again they served our nation with distinction.  I thank them for their sacrifice and look forward to welcoming our returning troops home in the coming months.

“It is critical that we continue our efforts to turn our economy around and create jobs so that as our troops come home, they have the opportunity to find work and take care of their families.  We owe them nothing less.”
