| Luján Highlights $1.9 Million Grant for Natural Gas Buses in Santa Fe |

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District highlighted a recent grant that was awarded to the City of Santa Fe by the U.S. Department of Transportation that will fund new compressed natural gas buses. The grant of $1,920,000 is part of the Department of Transportation’s efforts to bring the nation’s transit system into a state of good repair. “A modernized public transportation system is vital to economic development and a stronger community that is more accessible,” Congressman Luján said. “This important grant will not only help the people of Santa Fe get to where they need to go, but it will reduce the environmental impact by taking advantage of abundant, clean burning natural gas.” The City of Santa Fe will replace buses in its fleet that have met or exceeded their useful lives with compressed natural gas buses that will reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The replacement of the city’s fleet increases economic efficiency by providing more reliable and timely access to employment centers, educational opportunities, and business markets. # # # |
