Luján Statement on Release of Nunes Memo February 2, 2018
Luján says release of memo could do long-term damage to intelligence community and law enforcement agencies [WASHINGTON, DC] – Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) issued the following statement on the release of the Nunes memo today: “President Trump and the House Republicans’ decision to publicly release politically motivated and misleading allegations against the Department of Justice and the FBI is a shameful effort to discredit these institutions, undermine the Special Counsel’s ongoing investigation, and undercut Congressional probes into the Trump campaign’s involvement with Russia. The premise of the Nunes memo is that the FBI corruptly sought a FISA warrant on a former Trump campaign adviser and deliberately misled the court as part of a systematic abuse of the FISA process – none of this is true. The Republicans’ refusal to allow release of a comprehensive memorandum prepared by Committee Democrats in addition to the Nunes draft that was released today is a transparent effort to suppress the full truth. The selective release and politicization of classified information sets a terrible precedent that could do long-term damage to the intelligence community and our law enforcement agencies.”
