Lujan Celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following statement today in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated from September 15 to October 15.

“As we celebrate the 28th anniversary of Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize the longstanding contributions that the Hispanic community has made throughout our nation’s history.  This year’s theme, ‘Honoring our Heritage, Building our Future’ reminds us of the rich culture, proud traditions, and enduring accomplishments of the Hispanic community.  It also calls upon us to take action to meet the aspirations of a community whose hopes and dreams reflect those of all Americans – the opportunity to work hard to make a brighter future for our children and grandchildren.

“United by these shared goals, we must all work together to make the promise of America a reality for all people.  In New Mexico, Hispanics have had a profound and positive influence in our state’s culture.  Our values of hard work, dedication, and love for family have played an integral part in the fabric of our state.  In Congress I will continue to advocate for action that will spur job creation in our communities, enhance access to health care, and open the doors of opportunity by making a college education more affordable.  Working together, we can ensure that the Hispanic community, and indeed all people, get ahead and stay ahead.

“This month let us honor Hispanic heritage while uniting behind our shared values to build a stronger future.”
