Assistant Speaker Luján Statement on TPS Extension
U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) issued the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security announced they are extending Temporary Protected Status for residents of Sudan, El Salvador, Haiti, and Nicaragua:
“This is a welcome relief for the thousands of families who were forced into a state of anxiety and upheaval when President Trump needlessly stripped away protections from Temporary Protected Status recipients. But until Congress passes new protections for these U.S. residents, this relief is not permanent and far too many have been left in limbo. Next month, my colleagues plan to introduce legislation that will protect both DREAMers and TPS holders. I will be proud to strongly support that measure and to ensure its passage through the House. I hope my Republican colleagues will join us in providing a permanent solution for these individuals.”
