Luján Statement on Trump Administration's Continued Sabotage of the ACA

[Washington, D.C.]– Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) released the following statement today in response to the Trump administration’s latest attempt to sabotage the Affordable Care Act (ACA) by refusing to defend the law in court:

Congressional Republicans and President Trump talk from both sides of their mouths when they claim to care about the 20 million Americans suffering from substance use disorder and opioid addiction while they simultaneously take insurance away from those suffering the most. This latest attempt to repeal the ACA through the courts proves that they’re more interested in their partisan repeal-and-replace slogan than they are in protecting the health of the American people.

“The GOP tax scam has already caused health care premiums to skyrocket, making insurance unaffordable for thousands of families across the country, including at home in New Mexico. This is just the latest attempt to rip health care away from millions of Americans, slap an age tax on older adults, and allow insurance companies to discriminate against the one in four Americans with pre-existing conditions.

“Since his first day in office, President Trump and Republicans in Congress have relentlessly attacked Americans’ access to quality, affordable health care. I will not stop fighting for the principle that health care is a right, not a privilege.”
