Lujan Announces Winner of 2016 Congressional Art Competition

Santa Fe, NM – Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District announced today that Andrew Scott, a 9th grader at Kirtland Central High School, is this year’s winner of the Congressional Art Competition.

“Congratulations to Andrew Scott for winning this year’s Congressional Art Competition.  I look forward to welcoming him to Washington, D.C. as we recognize the talent and creativity of all the nation’s winners,” Congressman Luján said.  “His work will represent northern New Mexico as it is displayed in the Capitol for visitors from across the world to see.  Thank you to the students who entered this year’s competition and who represent the next generation of artists who will contribute to the next chapter of New Mexico’s proud artistic traditions.”

Andrew won for his entry “Natives.”  The graphite drawing is of two Native Americans, a man and a woman, standing next to each other in traditional dress.  Andrew credits his grandmother, who taught him to draw nine years ago, for his interest in drawing.
