Luján Statement Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

Washington, D.C. – U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement marking Hispanic Heritage Month:

“Hispanic Heritage Month is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the contributions and accomplishments of Hispanic Americans across the country. The crucial role that Hispanic Americans have made played throughout our history have helped move the needle on progress for labor protections, civil rights, and so much more. The diversity of our community is worth celebrating.

“And as we celebrate the progress we’ve made over generations of hard-fought activism and perseverance, we must keep fighting for a future that ensures justice for our communities. To honor those before us, we must take up the mantle of fighting for policies that uplift our communities and promote our success – and that includes holding the Trump administration accountable for making anti-immigrant rhetoric a hallmark of this White House.”
