Luján Statement on Introduction of Dream and Promise Act of 2019

U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-NM) issued the following statement on the House introduction of the Dream and Promise Act of 2019:

"This is a momentous day for DREAMers, TPS recipients, and all Americans who value fairness and justice. This legislation will secure the futures of thousands of men and women who proudly see themselves as Americans. For the past two years, House Democrats made a commitment that we would shield these young people and longtime U.S. residents from the threat of President Trump's xenophobic machine when in the majority. Today, I'm proud to join my colleagues, activists, and millions of Americans as we take the first step to grant the promise of the American Dream to the 800,000 DREAMers and TPS recipients who've spent decades contributing to this country."

The Dream and Promise Act of 2019 is legislation to protect DREAMers, Temporary Protected Status, and Deferred Enforced Departure Americans by providing these groups with pathways to permanent residency and citizenship. Luján is a cosponsor of the bill.
