Luján Statement on New Mexico Suit Over PFAS Contamination

Congressman Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), the U.S. House Assistant Speaker, issued the following statement in response to the New Mexico Environment Department and the New Mexico Office of the Attorney General filing suit against the U.S. Air Force over PFAS contamination at Cannon and Holloman Air Force bases.

“Years of continued pollution near the Cannon and Holloman Air Force Bases have left the surrounding communities suffering from contaminated sources of water and severe economic losses. Today's action by Governor Lujan Grisham and Attorney General Hector Balderas is a much-needed and appropriate step toward ensuring that these communities are made whole and the Air Force is held responsible for its role in exposing our families to PFAS.

"In Curry County, PFAS contamination has gravely impacted our communities. This cannot continue. As a member of the Congressional PFAS Task Force, I am committed to working with my colleagues to enact legislation to address PFAS contamination across the country.”
