La Familia Honored at White House Announcement, Given $1 Million Grant
Washington, DC – Rep. Ben Ray Luján congratulated La Familia Medical Center for receiving a $1,216,338 construction and renovation grant through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The community health centers receiving the grants, including La Familia, were honored in a ceremony held today at the White House.
“Community health centers provide valuable health services for families in small communities,” said Rep. Luján. “This grant will help support important renovations at La Familia Medical Center, allowing them to provide much needed health services to our community. I am encouraged that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is helping improve and expand health services in our state.”
According to the White House, the awards total nearly $600 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) to support major construction and renovation projects at 85 community health centers nationwide.
Community health centers provide comprehensive, culturally competent, quality primary health care services to medically underserved communities and vulnerable populations. Health centers are community-based and patient-directed organizations that serve populations with limited access to health care.
“La Familia Medical Center is honored to receive this grant, which provides for the infrastructure needs at our new dental clinic facility which will be relocated to the new Health and Science building at Santa Fe Community College,” said John Cassidy, Chief Executive Officer, La Familia Medical Center.
La Familia Medical Center has provided medical and dental care to underserved populations in Santa Fe since 1972.
